How I reached 40k views a month on Medium and clocked upper double-digit earning as a Data Science writer
I started writing actively on Medium only in the last 2 months. Prior to that my posts have been limited to a maximum of one per month. So I never paid attention to stats or earnings.
But this time it was different. With free time due to COVID-19, I could average 6 posts a month. The stats and earnings started to scale. They were no more in the ignorable range. For the past two months, I averaged around 40k+ views and upper double-digit earning monthly.
In this post, we will go through a few of my findings —
1. You can’t predict what is going to be your best work
I spent three weeks to ideate on the problem of generating True or False questions from any text content. Tested out various algorithms and pipelines and built a way to generate True or False sentences using GPT-2 text generation, Constituency parser, and BERT. I felt great that I came up with something of research paper quality when publishing the post.
On the other hand, I spent 3 hours one afternoon after a random thought on data science advice and came up with the article on building a data science profile as a beginner.
